Mountain Mini Tour
Stratford Cycling Club held its last race of the season with a 2 Stage Mini Tour. The first stage finished at the Stratford Mountain Gates splitting the field, with Greg Marfell winning from Anthony Visser (42 seconds back), and Brohn Torckler (3min 52sec down).
The second stage was a 9km Time Trial from the Mountain Gates down Prembroke Road. Brohn Torckler showed his time trialing power to record a record time of 9min 6sec (close to an average of 60kph). Anthony Visser was second in 9min 37sec, and Greg Marfell third in 9min 41sec.
B Metcalfe Plumbing & Gas Harry Lampitt Cup RaceJason Thomason won the Brendon Metcalfe Plumbing & Gas sponsored Harry Lampitt Cup at the Stratford Cycling Race on Sunday. A field of 30 riders raced the 50km course which went out and over the Strathmore Saddle and return. The scratch bunch of 11 riders worked well to catch the front bunch on Sangsters Hill, with Jason attacking to solo to the finish in 1-22-30. He was chased home by the ever improving Anthony Visser in 1-22-40 and national triathlete Edward Rawles. Last Updated (Thursday, 10 November 2011 11:05) Doug Herbert Toko Mini TourThe Doug Herbert sponsored Mini Tour was held at Toko on Sunday in wet and testing conditions. Only eight riders completed the Tour. The winner of A Grade was Brohn Torckler in 3.58.47. B Grade was Anthony Visser in 3.56.44, from Grant Deam. C Grade winner was Peter Scrafft in 3.19.13. D Grade was won by Dave Olsen in 3.29.54 from Mike Johnson and Gary Bradley. Doug Herbert was also presented with his Life Members Badge by Club Patron Gary Vincent. Doug's involvement with the Stratford Cycling Club started in the late 80s when the Club numbers were down to 4 members (this now stands at over 70). His competitive racing however started in 1953, and he won many Club, Provincial and National Titles, from Junior through to Veteran Events. He is now the Club Handicapper and Time Keeper. He also helps run the Sunday Egmont Village Events over the Summer. Northern Dairy Van Der Bos Cup RaceMaxyna Cottam continued her great form to win the Northern Dairy sponsored Van Der Bos Cup on Sunday. She rode away from her co markers on the testing hills over the 72km Te Wera, Huiroa Course. Her time of 2.21.14 was outstanding for a rider so young. Second place went to Chris Avery from fellow break rider Peter Schrafft. Fastest time went to Paul Roe in a sprint finish from the seven man scratch bunch in 2.06.27.
Last Updated (Monday, 05 September 2011 13:10) Egmont Electrical Lawrence Shield RaceStratford Cycling Club riders raced for the Egmont Electrical sponsored Lawrence Shield over 42km around the Pukengahu Block last weekend. Paul Avery found the hills to his liking and rode through to win in a time of 1.13.42 from Mark Caskey (his first Stratford Club race), and Garry Bradley (another new club member). Fastest time went to Denay Cottam in 1.03.27, holding off Jason Thomanson in the up hill finish on Bird Road. The next club race is the Northern Dairy sponsored Van Der Bos Cup on the 4th September .
